Here’s an insight! On Season Three of The Eden Podcast we look at 1 Timothy 2:8-3:13. Verse 15a of 1 Timothy 2 gives good people many troubles. The KEY is to recognize the Greek words.
In Greek “she” is singular and refers to Eve just mentioned in verses 13-14. There is an article in front of the Greek word “childbearing.” According to John R.W. Stott we can write that out as “the Childbearing.” This is Jesus. Eve placed her faith in the coming One. So could the ones being corrected at Ephesus. So can we!
Elsewhere Paul wrote a something very similar. In Galatians 3:16(!) the NASB translated the Greek words there as follows: 16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as one would in referring to many, but rather as in referring to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ.
1 Timothy 3:15 is not about the childbearing process or anything of the kind. He is writing about Jesus whom he refers to in the very next verse (3:1) as “the faithful Logos!”
