Jesus on the offspring of Satan in the Garden, by Bruce C. E. Fleming
In John 8:44, Jesus was talking to religious hypocrites who were lying about him and plotting to kill him. This is where he spoke about Satan:
“You are of your father the Devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of liars.” (HCSB)
Jesus called Satan “a murderer from the beginning.” He was referring to what happened in Genesis chapter 3.
Who did Satan murder in the beginning? Adam and Eve of course! As a result of his attack they both died.
Jesus also called Satan “a liar and the father of liars.” What did he lie about? He twisted and contradicted God’s words. Who was his first lying offspring? Who followed his example? Adam!
When God asked him two leading questions the man did not follow God’s logic. He did not reveal who spoke to them at the Tree. And he twisted the facts and accused God and the woman for being to blame for his disobedience. That was a lie. Satan was to blame, not God or the woman.
Did the woman lie? No. She told the truth. Significantly she unmasked Satan as the one who had lied to her. Then, she confessed her sin.
What was the score in Eden at that point? Two dead. One siding with Satan in his lies and rebellion. One confessing and siding with God against Satan.
With this understanding we can better look at what God said next in Genesis 3.God spoke to them about the offspring of the woman. Satan already had offspring in the sense that he was the father of Adam who was a liar like him. Now the woman would have offspring who, like her, would combat Satan!
