Key Takeaway Fact

Does any other Bible passage refer to the linchpin in Genesis 3:16a? The Apostle Paul apparently did for he builds one into his famous Eden passage in Ephesians 5:25.

Eden … Really? In verse 31 of the tightly constructed passage which starts in Ephesians 5:15, the Apostle Paul reveals that the Garden of Eden was on his mind. He quotes Genesis 2:24 and then, in Ephesians 5:32, he makes his theological point regarding Christ and the Church.

In his the three-part linchpin, Paul uses two linking words in the middle. It runs from verses 22-30.

In each of the three sections of his linked passage the main point in each one is “as Christ.”

The main lesson is not about marriage as so many think it is. Remember Paul spells out his point in verse 32: “I speak concerning Christ and the Church.”

When Paul’s stated main point is interpreted away into a lesser or non-existing point people can insert whatever point they want to make. They also make themselves liable to this searing criticism to a preacher about the sermon he’d just preached. “Great message. Wrong verse!” No. I wasn’t the preacher that day. And, yes, it is a true story.
